Sounds like the one we have on the East Coast Main Line - it’s bright yellow! Known fondly as the Banana Train, it checks rail conditions etc, and all the computers are like something off the boat searching for Nessie! It’s the train which tells us when engineering work needs to take place ……. um ….. most weekends?

its what we call a test train. its used to check the rails, using sonar signal that are bounced through the rails to see their weak points. Network Rail has some trains painted yellow that do the same job, as all rails have to be checked in the UK

here is some stuff about the AK test carriages of the New South Wales railways in Australia, they will be very similar.

It is NOT known as a test train - it’s the TRACK RECORDING TRAIN - it records all irregularities of the track over which it travels using ultra sound and laser beams together with all the technicians necessary to control the computerised operations, and it is converted 1973 Tube stock from the Piccadilly line ! ! !

They count how many people are waiting for trains cos they cant get on them as there are too many desks on board.

If they are also stuffing their faces and boozing, that would be an Officers Special.
